George Bass Marathon

Today I went with my family down to Main Beach in Moruya Heads to watch the first leg of the George Bass Marathon, from Bateman’s Bay to Moruya Heads. This event had surf rowing boats and surf skis competing including those from Maroochydore (QLD), Tallebudgera (QLD)and Bondi (NSW) as well as local competitors from Narooma and Moruya Heads. The grey clouds drifted across a moody sky and the waves crashed with renewed ferocity onto the golden sandy shoreline. Volunteer surf life savers made sure the crowd left enough space on the beach for the boats and surf skis to land. The beach was packed with locals who had walked down from their houses and people who had driven from further afield. The atmosphere was one of excitement as the crowd saw the competitors come into shore.
